COBRA
A federal law letting employees continue group health coverage after qualifying events, usually up to 18 months.
The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act lets eligible employees and dependents keep group coverage after job loss or other qualifying events, generally for 18 months (up to 36 in some cases). The individual pays the full premium plus a small administrative fee.
