Insurable Interest
A financial or emotional stake in the continued life or health of the insured, required when a policy is issued.
In life insurance, insurable interest must exist at the time of application (not at the time of claim). Individuals have unlimited insurable interest in their own lives; others (spouses, business partners, creditors) must show a legitimate stake. It prevents wagering on strangers' lives.
