Per Stirpes
A distribution method where a deceased beneficiary's share passes to their descendants.
Under per stirpes ('by the branch'), if a named beneficiary dies before the insured, that beneficiary's children split the share that would have gone to the parent. Per capita ('by the head') instead divides the benefit equally among surviving named beneficiaries.
