Policy Loan

A loan taken against a permanent policy's cash value.

Policy loans accrue interest and do not require credit approval since the cash value secures them. Unpaid loans plus interest are deducted from the death benefit or cash surrender value. A policy can lapse if loans exceed available cash value.
